The blessing of the Lord brings [true] riches, And He adds no sorrow to it [for it comes as a blessing from God]. Prov. 10:22
"Therefore, the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever" (2 Kings 5:27). Obviously, such a sentence, pronounced by a prophet, is not a blessing but rather a curse. However, why should he pronounce such a severe sentence on his servant? Is it because he was a lazy-man? No, but rather, because he had just defrauded one of his visitor (Naaman) who had just been cured from leprosy.
Gehazi could not resist the money, clothing, animals that Naaman was willing to offer in exchange for healing. He took it and hid it from his thinking master that he would not know. Alas! He had just exchanged his life and that of his posterity for what he would have called, a few moments before, the blessing of Naaman!
As I meditated on this story, I gave myself the freedom to let my imagination parody thinking what would have been the last message that Gehazi would leave to his descendants had he written one before his death:
"... I deeply regret to let you know that it is my unbridled search for wealth that is the basis of what you are suffering today, but if the story was to resume, the legacy I have left to you would have been all different. I will know where to store my greed for wealth. Know that the blessing isn’t gained with the use of lies, theft, cunning or force, fraud or deceit, taking bribes, corrupt practices in business, falsification of official documents, false resumes, false certificates / diplomas, or false tax returns, and all this to neither the Gentiles nor your brothers.
If you even pick up a bag of money in the street, give it back to the owner without withdrawing anything from it, return what you borrowed or rented even if the owner can no longer remember it, return what you have taken without permission and leave nothing under your roof that does not belong to you. You do not need it to be happy or blessed. It may be the curse in your home. Rather expect on God who will bless you beyond what you could reasonably offer yourself by way of these fraudulent means. He, who has ears to hear, hear what the spirit says today. Father Gehazi ".
